¡Corinto! First Impressions

I´m going to split this post into two parts- one part being my first impression when I got here (which I wrote down earlier), and the other part being what I think of it after being here for roughly 20 hours.

Part 1
I am here! I´ve only been here for a little over an hour, and I already love it. My family is more welcoming than I ever could have imagined, although I was intially very nervous, they put me at such ease. My host sister Sara is very friendly, and knows a little bit of English, which is helpful when I´m searching for a Spanish word to use, and my host parents are so nice and relaxed, it´s impossible to be stressed around them. Within 15 minutes of my arrival, my host mom set out a huge plate of delicious food, and I got a tour of the house, including the backyard where there are many fruit trees and animals (including two swearing parrots). When I met my host dad and he asked where I was from and I replied Rhode Island, which is near Boston, he immediately smiled and asked if I liked baseball, which I couldn´t help but appreciate. I also met an 18 year old German volunteer who has been here since July and will be here until next summer. I´ll be working with him at Huellas Juveniles, and he had such great things to say about it, I can´t wait to start!

Part 2
Now that I´ve been here for a bit under a day, I´ve seen the town more, and gotten to know some of the locals. Corinto is a beach tow, and it certainly has that vibe. Everything is Nicaragua is slow and relaxed, but here it is even more so. There are many more bikes than cars (my host parents even got me a bike! I don´t think they bought it, but I´m not sure where it came from), and although the center of the town and plaza are busy with many stores and people, it still has a very relaxed feel to it, which is quite different from Leon! Yesterday the German volunteer, Jan, picked me up at my house and we walked to Huellas Juveniles and I met some of the other workers and volunteers. There´s another German volunteer who is fluent in English, and it´s tempting to speak English with him, but I´m trying my best to stick with Spanish. After we met, 5 of us walked to the beach, which although very rocky, is very beautiful, and sat and talked for a while. Jan took me back to his house to meet his family, who is incredibly nice and welcoming, and later I returned home to eat with my family. I´m not sure what I am going to do today because I don´t have to work, but I´m excited to see the town more and spend time with my family! ¡Hasta luego!

(Also, I´m trying to work out the commenting glitch- I´d like to hear from people!)
